 After months of research, Sam Rivera, IT director for the City of Gulfport, called upon the expertise of Jeremy Hummer and Ed Griswold from Hi-Tech Enterprises when it came to realizing the broadcast needs of his facility.
The City had been broadcasting council meetings with a couple of security cameras and a title maker for announcement scrolls. Everyone at City Hall knew they were behind the times including the Mayor, City Manager and City Council.
Sam came to Hi-Tech looking for a solution. "Our new city manager, Tom Brobiel, came from a city where he had built a TV studio, what he saw here really needed help, but we didn't have a budget for a whole new control room and studio," said Sam.
After demonstrating several products it was determined that the hi-resolution Sony BRC-300 3-CCD robotic cameras and the Newtek VT4 live production suite offered the best combination of value and features for his budget. "Other studios had whole control rooms full of equipment, we didn't have the room or the budget, the VT4 did it all for us, the features we needed in a small package," Sam glowed.
Unlike many other products, the VT4 gave him the flexibility of multiple configurable inputs, multiple pre-captured video program streams for playback and a powerful easy to use character generator for graphics.
Hi-Tech installed two of the Sony BRC-300 cameras at the rear of Council Chambers, a third camera was mounted on the ceiling to capture anyone standing at the podium and a fourth camera was used for documents on the podium.
Sam also needed to update his antiquated bulletin board and specified the Capital Networks Audience.TV integrated information delivery system designed for cable and community television, corporate communications, educational institutions, digital signage, and hospitality channels.
A pair of Sony DSR-PD170 3-CCD DVCAM camcorder packages with tripods was later added to the entire system at Sam's request. "We wanted to have a couple of roving cameras available for capturing audience shots not possible with the robotic cameras as well as being able to produce our own PSAs and field production for special events and such,"
A wall mounted audio and video interface panel was installed on a sidewall so the cameras could be locked away when not in use.
Hi-Tech built the computer systems, ran all wiring to the cameras, monitors, audio, & video broadcast equipment, provided a VGA port in the podium for power point presentations, installed a video projector in the ceiling for image magnification and provided training for all of the equipment.
Sam's final thoughts: "HiTech is a first class operation, they delivered on time and on budget and have been available at a moment's notice for trouble shooting and tech support. In fact our video productions are so good, the County has requested we produce videos for them as well."
