Getting Started With Lightwave 3D Hi-Tech Enterprises is a Newtek reseller and training facility.
Rob Clarke (RC) asked our resident Expert, Ed Griswold (EG) some questions about getting started or getting going further with Lightwave 3D, Newtek's award winning 3D modeling and delivery application. RC: How long have you been using Lightwave 3D(LW3D)? EG: Approximately 10+ years, started out with version 5 and I have upgraded with every version since. RC: What is your favorite type of animation to deliver with Lightwave? EG: Mostly I enjoy technical animations where I get to show the functionality and inner workings. I also enjoy logo animation and seeing the look on a clients face when they see their logo or name in 3D flying around on a TV screen for the first time. RC: If someone was just beginning to learn Lightwave- what is the first thing you would tell them to do to familiarize themselves with the application? EG: If at all possible, sit down with an experienced user or visit Newtek's Lightwave page http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/tutorials/index.php. There you can find over 100 online tutorials that are easy to follow.
RC: Cool! I know LW3D can do a lot of things…. I also know that trying to create something from scratch in the modeling application can be a daunting task to start with. How would someone get going without spending a lot of time modeling something? EG: There are a number of online market places that offer 3D models for purchase in a variety of detail and prices such as Turbo Squid and 3d02.com. RC: Really? So I can actually BUY models that are pre-made? That seems to take a lot of the fear out of learning LW3D. What would I do if I wanted some extra training or ideas? Are there books or DVD's or Classes I can take that are available? EG: Actually there is an unbelievable amount of training material online, DVD and print or people can always contact me. I find that training someone is the best way to keep my skills sharp. RC: Very nice! And there you have it! The mystery of Lightwave 3D revealed!
