Manfrotto Launches New and Improved Version of its Popular 503 Pro Fluid Head New 503HDV pro fluid head features new triple-spring adjustable counterbalance system, available this summer
By Bogen Imaging (2007)

Manfrotto's 503 fluid head has gained a significant amount of popularity throughout the video industry and offers one of the best price/performance ratios of any fluid video head available on the market today. Continuously striving for perfection, Manfrotto is proud to announce that it has taken the 503 to the next level, launching a new and improved version at NAB2007. The new 503HDV pro fluid head boasts several new features, including Manfrotto's new triple-spring adjustable counterbalance system, and was designed specifically for shooters using HDV professional camcorders.

The 503HDV combines state-of-the-art features into an easy-to-use design. Large ergonomic locks and knobs on the 503HDV allow for a more solid grip and better control and an adjustable switch controls the counterbalance settings, allowing the user to adjust the triple-spring system to accommodate various payloads and for different filming needs. The counterbalance system can be adjusted to four positions ensuring both smoother tilt movements and greater equipment safety. For enhanced ease of use, all of the controls are located on the left side of the head allowing for enhanced ease of use.

    This weeks question submitted by:

    Ted Baber
Q "My Panasonic PV-GS 300 has a mic input but the techs at Panasonic have told me that it's only for post-recording audio dubbing. Can you tell me if that's true? They were basically quoting the manual, and I find it hard to believe I can't record audio while I'm recording video! "

    A "Audio
Panasonic's standard zoom stereo microphone system is used to capture audio in either 12 bit or 16 bit resolution. Users can also attach an external unbalanced microphone with the 3.5mm microphone jack; once it’s attached, the camcorder’s internal microphones are automatically disconnected. Audio can be played back and assessed through the small speaker on the GS300’s rear. The zoom slider control towards the top of the rear controls the volume.

    VCR Mode
Panasonic’s VCR mode can be used for reviewing footage in-camera, controlling footage seen on a TV when connected to the cam via A/V cable, or for copying the video to a computer over either DV (FireWire or i.Link) or USB cables. Users may play, pause, fast forward, and stop playback using the joystick; they may also fast preview, fast reverse, and fast reverse preview.

    Ports
Like the PV-GS500, the GS300 has DV, USB 2.0 high speed, A/V, and a shared microphone/wired remote port."
