This is being done for fun in an effort to share knowledge about our industry, which we feel is important. This weeks question comes from: Brian White, Director of Communication Hoffmantown Church "What did CMX stand for?" CMX could stand for many things by its self such as QUALCOMM's CMX® (Compact Media ExtensionsTM) multimedia software, or CMX comics. But we think the answer here is more reflective to the video industry: CMX stands for CBS, Memorex, and eXperimental. CBS Labs and Memorex, in a joint venture company called CMX Systems, designed one of the first computer-based video-editing controllers for postproduction starting with their CMX 600 in 1971. (Other resources go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CMX_Systems also see http://www.sssm.com/editing/museum/cmx/cmx.html ) More to come in our Next issue.
